The staging of the artifice of children confronted by war, enrolled as soldiers in fratricidal combat, where death is real and does not play itself out as virtual reality. A beautiful young white woman displays herself, revealing the fragile nature of our world.
In the photograph “Black Panic” Jacques Bosser renders homage to Valie Export, an iconic artist of the 1970s, whose performance in 1969 of “Action Pants, genital panic”made her among the first of contemporary female artists to violently and freely engage in guerrilla tactics intended to define the feminist movement.
Transposed through an African female model, this photography is of compelling relevance today, evoking the battle of women in Africa against domination by men, female circumcision and smothering religions.
